Books for Kids – AZ is a non-profit formed to get books in the hands of as many children as possible. Our primary emphasis is on younger students to start developing good reading habits.

Working with the teachers at Blue Ridge Elementary, the McNary School, Nikolaus Homestead, Linden, and Whipple Ranch elementary schools we have now given out new books to 645 students in 3 different school districts.

We will increase our giving to as many schools as possible as more resources become available.

We also have other projects, all designed to aid youth literacy.  To date we have given away an additional 418 used books, and 243 new books all of which were donated to us.

Why?

Research shows children having books in their homes is one of the very best ways to build literacy.  Some Arizona homes have no books for children to read and cherish.

Books for Kids, AZ handed out close to 200 books at the local Clothe A Child event at K-Mart in Show Low. Attached is a picture of Lynda Klingler, BKAZ Board Member, getting ready to put books into kids hands after they visited with Santa Claus

Children who do not read over the summer lose 2 to 3 months of reading development, but if a child reads over the summer that child can gain up to a month of reading proficiency.  If we can get even one book into a home it can make a huge difference!
